Wisconsin Badgers Softball Gets Walk-Off Win Over Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Gainesville Regional

The Wisconsin Badgers (30-20) softball team scores five runs in the Bottom of the Seventh inning to take down the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (38-18), 7-6, in an elimination game in the Gainesville Regional to keep the season alive!

Wisconsin got out to a 2-0 lead on two solo home runs from Fiona Girardot and Peyton Bannon in the first two innings.

Maddie Schwartz was fantastic through the first four innings allowing just one hit, but Georgia Tech was able to break through in the Top of the Fifth when they scored four runs to take a 4-2 lead.

The Yellow Jackets were able to add two more runs in the Top of the Sixth to take a 6-2 lead and at that point it seemed like the game was out of reach for UW with just six outs to work with.

But this Badgers team just didn’t go away. UW got two runs back in the Bottom of the Sixth when Bannon came through huge again with an RBI single and then Skylar Sirdashney hit a sac-fly.

Heading to the Bottom of the Seventh, down 6-4, UW needed a rally. The Badgers got a leadoff walk and then a hit by pitch to put the first two runners on.

Then Kayla Konwent came up to bat. Konwent, the all-time home run leader in UW history, had been struggling in the Regional going 0-for-8, but she came up HUGE and ripped an RBI double down the left field line to cut the deficit to 6-5.

UW was able to load the bases with zero out, then Morgan Kummer was able to score from third base on a wild pitch to tie the game 6-6.

UW then had a strikeout and then a pop out before Bannon walked to load the bases again, this time with two outs and Sirdashney coming up to bat.

Sardashney drew a bases loaded walk to complete the comeback and win the game 7-6 and keep UW’s season alive!

What a game! This Badgers team just doesn’t quit even when things are going well.
