Former University of Wisconsin running backs coach Gary Brown unfortunately passed away Sunday night. He was 52 years old.
Wisconsin hired Gary Brown in March 2021 to replace John Settle. Brown spent the entire season with the team until missing the December trip to the Las Vegas Bowl due to health issues. Brown stepped away from coaching last month, and the Badgers hired Al Johnson as his replacement.
Brown had been dealing with health issues and was in hospice for the last couple of weeks in his hometown Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Gary Brown is survived by his wife, Kim, daughters Malena and Dorianna and son Tre.
“I am deeply saddened by Gary’s passing,” UW head coach Paul Chryst said. “Though he was only on our staff for a year he had a profound impact on our players and our program. We are all better people for having known Gary. He was a tremendous person, a terrific coach and a joy to be around. He had great energy and passion for life and that showed every day. My deepest condolences go out to his wife, Kim, and his children Malena and Dorianna and Tre.”
