No. 11 Wisconsin Badgers Take Down Rival Minnesota Golden Gophers

The No. 11 Wisconsin Badgers (17-3, 8-2 B1G) take down a pesky Minnesota Golden Gophers (11-7, 2-7 B1G) team, 66-60, inside the Kohl Center in the Border Battle rivalry game! The all-time series between the two programs is now evened up at 104-104.

There was a lot of “Give the ball to Johnny and get the F out of his way” down the stretch and I was all for it.

Johnny Davis finished the game on a personal 6-0 run and had probably the most important play down the stretch which was grabbing an offensive rebound with 1:17 left and the Badger lead at 62-60.

To quote Mark Jackson….Mama, there goes that man.

Johnny Davis finished with 16 points on 7-of-14 from the field and a career-high 15 rebounds in 37 minutes. He is the closer and the best player in the country.

I will say, Minnesota made Johnny work for it today. He didn’t have his best game, but he delivered when needed.

Johnny Davis delivered the offense and Tyler Wahl delivered the defense in crunch time for the Badgers, which have now beaten Minnesota in 12 of the last 14 meetings and have won 32 of the last 41 meetings. They meet at the Barn on February 23rd.

The Badgers made 24-of-57 (42.1%) from the field, 6-of-19 (31.6%) from 3-point range and 12-for-15 (80.0%) at the free throw line. UW only had eight assists, which needs to be a hire number, but only committed seven turnovers which is a good number.

Head Coach Greg Gard postgame on getting the ball to Davis and letting him create: “It’s not rocket science.”

This team is fun to watch.

Up Next:

The Badgers travel to Champaign, Illinois on Tuesday, February 2nd against the No. 24 Illinois Fighting Illini (15-5, 8-2 B1G) in a battle for first place. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM (Central Time) and will be televised on the Big Ten Network (BTN).
