The UW-Milwaukee Panthers (7-12, 5-5 Horizon) upset the Oakland Golden Grizzlies (13-5, 7-1 Horizon), 88-78, inside UWM Panther Arena.
This may have been the biggest win in the Pat Baldwin Sr. era, and it’s certainly the biggest win in Horizon League play this season.
This was Milwaukee’s best all around performance this season. UWM hit 34-of-63 (54%) from the field, 7-of-17 (41.2%) from 3-point range and 13-of-13 (100%) at the free throw line and had 20 assists. The only negative, and it’s a big negative, is UWM committed 17 turnovers which Oakland scored 16 points off of.
Josh Thomas was great tonight and led UWM with 22 points on 10-of-13 from the field, grabbed six rebounds to go along with two assists and two steals.
Vin Baker Jr. and Jordan Lathon each scored 16 points respectively. Tafari Simms hit quite a few big shots, especially early in the second half, to keep the Panthers afloat and finished with 13 points.
DeAndre Gholston scored 10 points, but it was another rough shooting night as he shot 2-for-10 from the field, but was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line.
UWM will welcome the Detroit Mercy Titans (5-10, 3-3 Horizon) to UWM Panther Arena on Saturday, January 22nd. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM (Central Time) and will be televised on ESPN+.
