Greg Gard … Silent Assassin. Greg Gard is a thief!
On a night when three UW players fouled out, the No. 23 Wisconsin Badgers (11-2, 2-1 B1G) take down the No. 3 Purdue Boilermakers (12-2, 1-2 B1G) inside Mackey Arena, 74-69!
What a huge win for the Badgers! Wisconsin Badgers athletics = the definition of gritty.
It’s the first time Wisconsin has won as a underdog of 13-points or more since before 1995.
It’s the first time Wisconsin has won in Mackey Arena since January of 2014. What an effort from this group!
My initial thoughts: This may be the most impressive win of the Greg Gard era. It’s also the sixth win over a top-five opponent in the Gard era.
Also, Johnny Davis is the TRUTH!!!!
Johnny Davis finished with a game-high 37 points on 13-of-24 from the field, grabbed 14 rebounds and finished with three assists, two steals and two blocks in 38 minutes.
Tonight’s performance by Davis is right up there among the top individual performances by a UW player … ever.
If I’m Johnny Davis, I’m spending the next two and a half years perfecting my game in Madison.
Brad Davison finished with 15 points on 5-of-11 from the field, with three rebounds and three assists in 38 minutes.
I still think Purdue’s factory of tall freaks is illegal.
That game was special. Next level performance from the Wisconsin Badgers. I’m running out of ways to describe Johnny Davis and I can’t say enough about the resolve of this group.
We know that “out-toughing” an opponent is a staple to the Wisconsin program, and that’s what they did tonight.
Purdue’s Zach Edey postgame said: “I feel like they out-toughed us. They just played harder.”
Chucky Hepburn’s on-ball defense was unbelievably great! The kid can defend the ball.
To all of you haters of Wisconsin, I want you to do this as a punishment:
The Wisconsin Badgers will host the Iowa Hawkeyes (10-3, 0-2 B1G) at the Kohl Center on Thursday, January 6th. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM (Central Time) and will be nationally televised on FS1.
