I CAN believe I‘m going to say it, the Wisconsin Badgers volleyball team has punched their ticket to Columbus, they’re going to the Final Four for the third consecutive season!
The No. 4 Badgers (29-3) swept rival No. 12 Minnesota (23-9), 3-0, in front of a sold out UW Field House crowd 25-18, 26-24 and 25-22.
Ending Minnesota’s season and heading to the Final Four seems alright!
Only 11 programs have won national titles since the NCAA began holding the women’s tournament in 1981, and the Badgers aren’t on that list despite national title game appearances in 2000, 2013 and 2019.
This may be the year it happens.
If the weight of the world is on the Badgers’ shoulders to finally get over the hump, it doesn’t show. It’s a group that perfectly balances grit and joy.
As head coach Kelly Sheffield said last week: “pressure’s a privilege.” And the Badgers have embraced that.
The Badgers will play the top overall seed in the tournament, the Louisville Cardinals (32-0) in the National Semifinal on Thursday, December 16th inside Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN. Game time hasn’t been announced yet.
