Santa Clara Broncos Defeat Mount Saint Mary’s Mountaineers

The Santa Clara Broncos (7-3) get a much needed win over the Mount Saint Mary’s Mountaineers (3-7), 88-77, inside the Leavey Center in Santa Clara, California.

Santa Clara had lost three of the previous four games entering today, all of which were winnable games, but couldn’t play well on both ends of the floor in those games.

This was a tight game and never felt “safe” for SCU who hovered around 16 to 17 point favorites in Vegas in this game.

Defense was nearly nonexistent for both teams in the first half when SCU took a 46-43 lead into intermission. The second half defense for both teams was better, but not by much.

The Broncos were able to hold off the Mountaineers by shooting 58.2 percent from the field (32-of-55) and making 18-of-22 (81.8%) of their free throws.

Santa Clara did have 10 turnovers, which the Mountaineers scored 10 points off of.

Jalen Williams led SCU with 22 points and six assists and did grab seven rebounds.

Keshawn Justice recorded a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Parker Braun (16), PJ Pipes (13), and Carlos Stewart (12) also scored in double-figures for SCU.

Up Next:

Santa Clara will travel to Berkeley, California to play the California Golden Bears (4-5) inside Haas Pavilion on Saturday, December 11th. Tipoff is set for 8:00 PM (Central Time) and will be televised on the PAC-12 Network.
