Wisconsin redshirt freshman wide receiver and kickoff returner Devin Chandler has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Chandler has played in all six games this season for UW, but didn’t record a catch. He did, however, have four kickoff returns for a total of 85 yards.
As a true freshman in 2020, Chandler worked his way into the rotation with injuries to Danny Davis and Kendric Pryor. He tallied two receptions for 28 yards and one carry for 18 yards while having an impressive 26.0 yards per kickoff last year.
Chandler only took offensive snaps in three games this year.
Before the season started, CBS Sports projected him as a potential surprise breakout player for UW.
Wisconsin’s two-deep stays intact in the receiver group with Davis, Pryor, sophomore Chimere Dike and senior Jack Dunn, although Chandler was expected to compete for a starting job in 2022. However, the Badgers as a team rank No. 115 out of 130 FBS (D1-A) teams in passing offense with 161.7 passing yards per game.
Per UW’s depth chart, senior cornerback Faion Hicks is the backup kick returner to Chandler.
Chandler was a former three-star prospect who chose UW over Virginia, Maryland, Duke and Illinois.
Devin Chandler is the fourth UW player to depart this season. Loyal Crawford and Antwan Roberts were involved in an on-campus incident that resulted in Crawford being dismissed from the team and Roberts was suspended and later entered the transfer portal. Then last weekend Jalen Berger was dismissed from the program.
