I love nothing more than the Milwaukee Brewers destroying the Chicago Cubs.
The Milwaukee Brewers (69-46) jumped out of the gates hot with a seven run first inning en route to a 10-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs (52-64).
One thing is perfectly clear: Corbin Burnes is a stud.
Burnes was magnificent in eight innings tonight. Burnes allowed just four hits, no runs, no walks and had 15 strikeouts. He tied a MLB record with 10 consecutive strikeouts.
The 15 strikeouts were a career high for Corbin Burnes.
Here are the other 14+ strikeout games in Brewers history before tonight:
- 18, Ben Sheets vs Atlanta, 5/16/04
- 14, Mike Fiers vs Chicago Cubs, 8/14/14
- 14, Yovani Gallardo vs Pittsburgh, 7/15/12
- 14, Moose Haas vs New York Yankees, 4/12/78
Avisail Garcia left the game after getting hit in the hand on a swing. The good news is the club announced that it’s just a bruised left hand.
Rowdy Tellez also left the game with right knee discomfort.
I love seeing MLB social media calling the Brewers “cheaters.” Makes it even better that they’ve won a ton of games while half their team has been hurt or out with Covid. Shove it, losers.
Also, large market teams in leagues with free agency should never tank because of their vast resources. This display by the Cubs tonight (and this year) is really horse bleep. If I were one of their true fans (and I’m glad I’m not), I would revolt.
The Atlanta Braves knocked off the Cincinnati Reds in extra innings, so the Brewers now lead the Reds by 8 games in the NL Central.
The Brewers and Cubs will play the series finale from Wrigley Field tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1:20 PM (Central Time).
Brandon Woodruff (7-6, 2.23 ERA) will start for the Brewers.
Kyle Hendricks (13-4, 3.68 ERA) will start for the Cubs.
