Tampa Bay Lightning Take Game 1 in Stanley Cup Finals

The defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-1 in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final to take the 1-0 series lead.

Nikita Kucherov scored two goals. Steven Stamkos, Yanni Gourde and Erik Cernak each scored a goal.

Kucherov said he hopes Ondrej Palat gets credit for the Bolts third goal, which the NHL scoresheet still showing it as Kucherov’s goal.

Brayden Point registered three assists in tonight’s Game 1.

Andrei Vasilevskiy had 18 saves on 19 shots.

Former Wisconsin Badger, Cole Caufield, has been playing well for Montreal in these playoffs and he’s not afraid to shoot for a rookie. He had several good looks tonight.

Kucherov was asked what went well in Game 1: “Stick to our game plan. That’s what’s working. The coaches are telling us what to do and I think we’re doing a hell of a job listening to them.”

Steven Stamkos on Nikita Kucherov: “That’s one of the best players in the world. He’s playing like a beast right now. He’s so, so good.”

Game 2 from Amalie Arena will be on Wednesday, June 30. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM (Central Time) and will be nationally televised on NBCS.
