The Tampa Bay Lightning shutout the Carolina Hurricanes, 2-0, tonight in Raleigh to close out the series 4-1.
That’s three straight elimination game shutouts for Andrei Vasilevskiy. He was stellar as saved all 29 Carolina shots tonight.
It was a relentless effort all around by Tampa Bay and they played a clinical close out game.
Mikhail Sergachev played a monster game. It seemed like every time I looked, he was blocking another shot.
“We didn’t want to come back to Tampa and play another game (in 2nd round),” Sergachev said. “We wanted to close them out.”
The fourth line for Tampa Bay (Ross Colton, Tyler Johnson and Pat Maroon) were terrific tonight and created so much.
Brayden Point, who scored the first goal of the game in the second period on a phenomenal move, talked about Tampa Bay being in the “Final Four” for the fifth time in the past seven seasons: “It’s just the belief in our group. We’ve got four lines and all the D and great goaltending. This is not the end goal. There’s still so much work to be done.”
The Lightning will be able to get at least some time off. The Bolts will play the winner of the New York Islanders/Boston Bruins series.
The Islanders have a 3-2 series lead and Game 6 is tomorrow, June 9 at 6:30 PM (Central Time) on NBCSN.
I’m definitely rooting for the Islanders in that series!
