Former Illinois Fighting Illini running back, Kenyon Sims, has committed to the San Jose State Spartans.
Sims entered the transfer portal back in December after Lovie Smith was fired by Illinois.
Sims was a 3-star recruit out of high school in the 2018 class. He was ranked the No. 87 running back in the class of 2018 and signed with Illinois over offers from Arizona, Colorado State, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon State, Utah and Washington State.
In 2018 as a true freshman, Sims appeared in one game and carried the ball two times for four yards before ultimately redshirting.
In 2019 as a redshirt freshman, he appeared in three games, rushing for 52 yards on 14 carries, while also having two receptions for seven yards.
Sims was buried on the depth chart in 2020 and didn’t appear in a game.
Since 2020 didn’t count as a year towards eligibility for athletes, Sims will have three years of eligibility remaining to play for the Spartans.
