The UW-Milwaukee Panthers (8-11, 7-10) took down the Oakland Golden Grizzlies (10-17, 10-10) in double overtime, 89-87, on a Te’Jon Lucas jumper with 2.1 seconds left in the double OT frame inside the Klotsche Center.
Josh Thomas, who’s been the most consistent player for UWM the last few weeks, led the Panthers in scoring with 22 points.
Te’Jon Lucas finished with 21 points after his game winner. Courtney Brown Jr. finished with a career-high 15 points. DeAndre Gholston finished with 14 points and Amir Allen had 12.
The defense for the Panthers for the most part wasn’t good today, but I will say they did get some key stops in the second half and the first overtime to extend the game. The most impressive part to me was UWM finished with only 8 turnovers.
We know for sure that UWM will play on Thursday, February 25 which is the day of the first round of the Horizon League Tournament. What’s unknown is the opponent and location. Since UWM won and IUPUI lost today, there is a chance that the Panthers could host the first round game.
