The Milwaukee Bucks (12-8) got off to a good start offensively and snapped their two game losing streak in a 134-106 win over the Portland Trail Blazers (10-9) inside the Fiserv Forum tonight.
Jrue Holiday led Milwaukee in scoring with 22 points. Bobby Portis had a huge night off the bench scoring 21 points, grabbing 8 rebounds and dishing out 2 assists.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had 18 points on 8-of-11 from the field, while Khris Middleton scored 17. Bryn Forbes and D.J. Augustine each scored 13 points respectively.
The Bucks defense was better tonight, they didn’t allow 20-plus three-pointers, but they did a good job containing Damian Lillard. Lillard ended up with 17 points, but was 6-of-13 from the field, 2-of-7 from 3-point range and 3-of-3 at the foul line.
Mike Budenholzer said postgame on the defense on Lillard tonight: “Overall, I thought it was really pretty good. The bigs executing. He demands so much attention. Jrue for most of the night or all of the night, just locking into him, making it hard on him, but a lot of effort behind him, a lot of activity from Giannis around the rim. He takes a lot of effort. It takes a lot of focus. For the most part, the guys were really really good in it.”
Jrue Holiday was asked about the Bucks putting together a solid 48 minutes more regularly this season and Jrue joked that he knew the Bucks were good at it last year, or at least the first three quarters, because “Giannis would always sit out in the fourth with a big lead.”
Holiday went on to say that he believed the Bucks were capable of that once again this season.
D.J. Augustin called tonight’s victory against Portland a “must win” after dropping the last two games in the fashion that they did.
“It wasn’t a good feeling around the building. It wasn’t a good flight back home to Milwaukee, so when you’re on a team like this, the atmosphere is a little different,” Augustin said.
It’s been a while since I’ve heard the phrase “must win” used regarding the Milwaukee Bucks and the regular season.
Bobby Portis postgame said: “We played with swag, played with grit, played with fire and I think that’s kind of contagious through the whole team. I think today our team was ready. Obviously, we really, really needed this win really, really bad. We didn’t want to drop three in a row.”
