The No. 12 Wisconsin Badgers (6-5-0, 6-3-0-0-1-0) men’s hockey team beat arch-rival and No. 1 in the country the Minnesota Golden Gophers (10-1-0, 8-1-0-0-0-0) tonight, 3-1, inside LaBahn Arena.
After a scoreless first period, UW struck first with a Linus Weissbach goal, taking a 1-0 lead 5:13 into the second period.
Tarek Baker extended UW’s lead to 2-0 1:59 into the third period. But Minnesota wouldn’t go away quietly, as they cut the deficit to 2-1 7:50 into the third period on a Sampo Ranta goal.
The Badgers put the game away with a Owen Lindmark goal to go up 3-1 with 54 seconds left in the game.
This is a big win for the UW program.
The Badgers and Gophers will wrap up the two-game series tomorrow. Game time is set for 4:00 PM (Central Time) and will be televised on Fox Sports Wisconsin as well as Fox Sports North.
