The Wisconsin Badgers (2-3) football team hosts the Minnesota Golden Gophers (3-3) today for Paul Bunyan’s Axe! Kickoff is less than 70 minutes away. Game time is at 3:00 PM (Central Time) and will be televised on Big Ten Network (BTN).
Wisconsin’s domination of Minnesota since Barry Alvarez came to Madison to be the new head coach of the Badgers in 1990 (his first and only head coaching job before becoming UW’s Athletic Director) has been remarkable.
Entering the 1990 season, Minnesota led the all-time series 54-37-8. The Badgers head into today’s matchup leading the all-time series 61-60-8. For those of you that need help with the math, UW is 24-6-0 against Minnesota since the 1990 season.
The Badgers are looking to close out this tumultuous season by keeping the Axe and getting a bowl game victory.
Wisconsin has scored two touchdowns in the last three games while averaging 6.67 points in those three games. As you might imagine, UW is 0-3 in those games.
With Jalen Berger, Danny Davis and Kendric Pryor all out for UW (three key players to UW’s offense), who will step up on the offensive side of the ball for the Badgers? Minnesota’s defense isn’t on the same level as UW’s last three opponents, but the Badgers still need execution and some guys to step up.
UW’s defense will play another phenomenal game, and the Badgers offense will break through in this one.
Wisconsin 24, Minnesota 14.
