The San Jose State Spartans football team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 34-17 win over UNLV tonight. It’s the first 4-0 start to a season for SJSU since 1955!
Nick Starkel played tonight after getting knocked out of the game in the first possession of last weeks game against San Diego State. Starkel completed 17-of-28 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns while also throwing an interception.
Fellow quarterback Nick Nash ran the ball eight times and led SJSU with 94 rushing yards.
Bailey Gaither had six catches for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
The SJSU defense surprisingly had a pretty good game, especially the run defense. UNLV had 294 yards of total offense and only 70 rushing yards. The Spartans also had six sacks in the game. Kyle Harmon had a team-high 10 tackles.
SJSU plays on the road next Saturday, November 21, where they’ll take on arch-rival the Fresno State Bulldogs for the Valley Trophy. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM (CT) / 4:00 PM (PT). The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network (CBSSN).
