Hall of Fame Coach Steve Coccimiglio Retires After 30 Years at Diablo Valley College

After 659 career wins and 12 Conference Titles during a remarkable 30-year career at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, California, Steve Coccimiglio has retired as the Vikings men’s basketball coach.

Coccimiglio ranks No. 3 in the all-time winningest coaches in California Community College Men’s Basketball list after compiling a 659-301 (.687) record at DVC (1990-2020). DVC went to six Elite 8’s and one Final Four under Coccimiglio. Prior to arriving at DVC, he coached at De La Salle High School from 1981-86 and went 101-41 (.711).

Coccimiglio was inducted into the California Community College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017. He won the State Coach of the Year award twice (1999, 2001). Over 140 players were sent to four-year colleges to pursue their playing careers under Coccimiglio.

Having played and coached against his teams while I was at West Valley, I got to know him a little bit. He’s a good guy and is hilarious and deserves this retirement.
