Maccabi Tel Aviv fell on the road to Hapoel Tel Aviv, 82-72, in Game 2 of the best of 3 Quarterfinals series. The series is now tied 1-1 with Game 3 on Thursday at 1:00 PM (CT).
Maccabi looked like they had learned from the game 1 start in the opening couple minutes of the game, but Hapoel kicked things into gear and quickly built a sizable lead.
As the game went along, Maccabi was able to cut the deficit down to one possession on a few different occasions but just weren’t able to get over the hump and then frustration started to set in.
Scottie Wilbekin was ejected from the game halfway through the Third Quarter after he felt he was fouled.
Angelo Caloiaro had a bounce back game on the offensive end, leading Maccabi with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting (2-for-3 from 3) and 2-of-4 at the free throw line. Caloiaro grabbed six rebounds, one steal and five assists with two turnovers in 26 minutes.
I was pumped up after Caloiaro hit this 3-pointer:
Yam Madar led Hapoel with 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting and 5-of-5 at the free throw line in 32 minutes.
The one major difference in today’s game, Maccabi had 23 turnovers to Hapoel’s 12.
Maccabi will need to figure it out within the next 48 hours before the do-or-die game 3 to advance to the semi-finals. I’m sure the little scuffle at the end of the game will get them fired up.
