Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv defeated Hapoel Tel Aviv 67-66 in game one of the best of three quarterfinal series.
Maccabi were 15.5 point favorites and trailed for most of the game. But as they say, it’s better to win ugly than lose pretty.
The playoffs are a different animal than the regular season. If you don’t start well and you know you’re supposed to win, you start to tense up and get nervous.
Maccabi trailed 55-40 with 1:37 remaining in the 3rd quarter, then the defense started to play suffocating defense, only allowing 11 points over the final 11:37 of the game to allow Maccabi to get back in it and ultimately win.
Yovel Zoosman led Maccabi with 12 points, Scottie Wilbekin, Jake Cohen and Deni Avdija each scored 10 points respectively.
Angelo Caloiaro scored 3 points on 1-of-5 shooting, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block in 19 minutes of action.
Jordan Davis led Hapoel with 15 points and Yam Madar added 12 points.
Game 2 of the Quarterfinals series will be on Tuesday at 1:00 PM (CT) at Hapoel Tel-Aviv.
