The San Jose State Spartans honored their two seniors, Brae Ivey and Isaiah Nichols, pregame. However, that was the only bright spot for SJSU at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
The Spartans were blown out, for what feels like the millionth time in the Jean Prioleau era, by UNLV 92-69.
Seneca Knight scored 20 points, Trey Smith added 11, Zach Chappell scored 9 points and Richard Washington chipped in 8.
Spartans shot 39.6 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from 3-point range and 67.9 percent at the foul line.
SJSU has now lost nine consecutive games, dropping their record to 7-23 overall and 3-15 in MWC play. The Spartans will enter the MWC Tournament as the 10 seed where they’ll play New Mexico on Wednesday, March 4, at 2:30 PM (PT) at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
When will SJSU decide enough is enough? My guess is probably not any time soon with the inept leadership on campus.
Jean Prioleau is now 15-76 (.165) in his tenure as the SJSU head coach. That includes a 5-49 (.093) MWC record. SJSU is 2-44 (.044) in games played away from The Event Center. There has been zero progress from year one to year three under Prioleau. But hey, he’s a nice guy.
