The University of Wisconsin Men’s Basketball team went on the road Friday night and upset No. 5 Ohio State 61-57. The two key stretches came at the end of each half. Wisconsin closed the first 20 minutes on a 8-0 run to take a 29-25 lead into intermission, before the Buckeyes went on a 13-2 run to start the second half to sort of take control of the game. But the Badgers didn’t flinch, keeping it close until finishing on a 14-6 run to get a big win in Columbus.
Nate Reuvers led the way with 17 points, including 10 from the free throw line. Perhaps the biggest shot of the night came from Brevin Pritzl. The senior got an open look from three in the corner off a fantastic inbounds play with 1:10 remaining to give UW a 55-51 lead. Ohio State answered with a three of their own, but Reuvers and D’Mitrik Trice went a perfect 6-for-6 from the line to close it out.
The player of the game was hands down Tyler Wahl. The true freshman continues to impress and was on the floor in key moments. He had just four points, but finished with seven rebounds (five offensive), three steals and two assists in 25 minutes.
Kobe King had 13 points, while Pritzl added nine. Micah Potter, in his first game against his former team, had four points and three rebounds in 11 minutes. UW is now 4-0 since Potter became eligible.
The win was the fifth Top-5 win under Coach Greg Gard in his five seasons as coach, including three away from Madison.
UW improves to 9-5 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play with the win. The Badgers will return to the Kohl Center on Wednesday where they’ll host Illinois. Tip-off is set for 8:00 pm (CT) and will be aired on BTN.
