For the third time in their history, the Wisconsin volleyball team will play for the National Championship.
The No. 4 Badgers got there ͏by taking down No. 1 Baylor, 3-1, in the National Semi-Finals tonight in Pittsburgh.
Wisconsin had not lost a set in their first four matches in the NCAA Tournament. But Baylor got the Badgers in a 1-0 hole with a 27-25 win in the first set. All the Badgers did was win the next three sets — 25-21, 25-17, 25-19 — to take the match and hand the Bears their second loss of the season.
It was a bit of revenge for Kelly Sheffield’s team, who lost to Baylor 3-1 earlier this season. But not this time, as the Badgers are now 3-0 all time in the National semi’s.
Wisconsin has played for the National Championship twice prior to this year, coming up empty in both 2000 and 2013.
No. 4 Wisconsin (27-6) will look for their first National Championship in program history against either No. 3 Stanford (28-4) or No. 7 Minnesota (27-5) on Saturday night in Pittsburgh. Scheduled start time is 7:00 pm (CT) and will be aired on ESPN2.
