The day started out with the news of Brandon Woodruff replacing Josh Hader at the All-Star Game because Hader is battling back soreness and is listed as day-to-day but will still attend the ASG.
It is well-deserved for Woodruff to be in the ASG, a first time All-Star. This season he is 10-3 with a 3.91 ERA. Woodruff has been the most consistent starting pitcher this season for the Crew.
Shortly after the announcement of Woodruff replacing Hader in the ASG, the Brewers designated right-hander Deolis Guerra for assignment. Right-hander Burch Smith was recalled in his place.
Guerra, who was called up Thursday, pitched part of the ninth inning last night in the Brewers 10-inning win. He faced six batters, allowing four hits and four earned runs before exiting.
To cap off the day, the Brewers were pretty much a no-show in the 12-2 defeat to the Pirates.
The Crew fell to 47-43 on the season and dropped to a half game behind the Chicago Cubs (47-42) for first place in the National League Central Division.
The Brewers take on the Pirates tomorrow for the final game of the “first half” of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 pm (CT).
