Following the cancellation of the initial season opener against North Dakota State due to weather last week, tonight’s game in Milwaukee against Marquette marked the season opener for the Wisconsin women’s soccer team. Led by sophomore Lauren Rice and senior Emily Borgmann, the Badgers cruised to a 2-0 victory.
Coming out of halftime with the game scoreless, Borgmann started the action on an assist from Rice in the 48th minute.
It only took another eight minutes before Rice padded Wisconsin’s lead even further, taking a give-and-go corner from junior Payton Wesley giving UW the 2-0 lead.
Wisconsin outshot Marquette 16-5 and also held the corner advantage 5-1. Junior Jordyn Bloomer in her first career start in goal for the Badgers, logged two saves on five Marquette shots.
Next game: Wisconsin returns to Madison for the team’s home opener versus Florida State on Thursday, August 26. The match is scheduled for 7 pm (CT).
